I am a second year PhD student jointly supervised by Professor Laura Ferraiuolo and Professor Dame Pamela Shaw. My project focuses on the role of astrocytes in development of familial motor neuron disease and frontotemporal dementia caused by a shared genetic risk factor. I use cutting-edge techniques to develop cellular models from patient skin cells. I will also be investigating family members of these patients to identify signals of disease development prior to symptom onset.
